Wardrobe Daydreams/Nightmares

I'm preggers again. I'm already missing my regular clothes. And all the maternity stuff I can find is either grotesque (horrendous photographic props* or t-shirts with 'humorous' captions), or I like it but the model is too self-satisfied or wearing too much foundation… see above and below.

And then I found Andreea Lofgon on Etsy. Ah haaaaaaaaaaaa.

I could wear these as pyjamas too right?

And these are all the colours it comes in! ARGH!

*I'm not going to post a photo, I won't lower the standards of my blog that far: if you feel you must, here. But I flipping warned you.

Wardrobe Daydreams

*

I saw these earrings about 8 months ago in a vintage store in Katoomba, possibly this one, and have been mulling them over since. I've put them on a pedestal as the benchmark for 'magical everyday studs that would make me look elegant even when all I've managed is jeans and non-toddler stained t-shirt.' Since I haven't come across any viable contenders, I decided last week to get them. BUT when I went online just now, I saw this pair below. So now I am in complete decision-paralysis. Dammit Ms. Murrell, now it's going to take another 8 months to commit.

* Availble from here in case for some reason the website beautifully incorporated into the packaging has completely missed you.

Wardrobe Daydreams

I want these. I really want them. I haven't got like this over a pair of shoes since I was in my teens. How perfect are they for the Australian autumn? Sod it, I don't care if they are perfect for the season or not. Just look at them. Plus, I want all my friends to own them so we can hang out in the foyer of a budget hotel, like this...

Available from Olive Thomas shoes in Tel Aviv, see here.

Wardrobe Daydreams

About a year ago, I made a key rack out of some drift wood. When I say made, I drilled five holes in it, screwed in some hooks and then used copious amounts of double sided tape to attach it to the wall. Since then, I have had a pretty good idea of where my keys are. It makes me feel very grown up.

Not so for my phone. I can never find it and if I do find it easily then the battery is dead. Even when it's charged, I can hardly see the screen because I dropped it face down on the curb a few months ago. The very antithesis of grown up. It's an excellent situation for a self-employed word-of-mouth consultant, non?

This desk organizer is not just in my day dreams because it looks so sleek and Scandinavian, nor is it because it's made in Australia, nor is it because it's made my a collective who call themselves Made From Good Deeds. No, it's because I endow it with magical properties of solving all my phone dilemmas: it would both store and charge my phone. Angels would sing. For that reason, I don't think I can ever purchase it.* It would be too much of a disappointment to have the illusion shattered. Besides, unless it comes with something to zap my 15 month old every time she went near it, my phone would still end up in a toy aeroplane chilling out with the Duplo zebra on a semi-regular basis.

*Also, it would not look like this on my desk. My pencil holder contains one hundred and three broken pens that I optimistically keep hold of, one working pen, two screw drivers, the kitchen scissors, and a set of oversized German colouring pencils that I've had since I started primary school some time last century.

Wardrobe Daydreams

Have you heard of Seasalt? They are from deep, dark Cornwall in the UK (kinda the Tasmania of England). It's the pointy toe bit. Although it's a beautiful part of the world, full of myths and legends and ice cream, it is also known for wet and wild weather. Ok, so is all of Britain, but even within Britain, it's known for it's damp. It's probably partly because lots of people try to spend school holidays there as it has lovely beaches but then have their campsites flooded by predictably shite weather that turns up every school holidays in the UK (the only predictable part of the weather in Old Blighty is long weekends and school holidays being wet).*

But Seasalt have embraced this and their stores are full of sensible jumpers and sensible coats and other sensible items that my mum would buy but I haven't quite grown up enough for yet. It's the kind of store where you think, hmmm, this is a bit too floral/stripey/middle class for me and then find yourself dreaming about one of their jumpers all winter. Oh, and they are fair trade with a bit of organic stuff thrown in.

Well, this week, I was all lined up to share with my day dreams of a beautiful Merino coat with you. And then life happened and all of Sydney is damp to the bone. And what I really, really, really wish I owned are these wellies.** I do love you Cornwall.

* Yes, I am writing from experience
** I will never live here long enough to call them gum boots. Never.

Wardrobe Daydreams

I'm not a big fan of retail clothing stores. There're a lot of reasons why, and I'm not going to get preachy on you right now. Normally though, when I try to buy something organic and ethically made it's either ludicrously priced or looks like it would be more at home on the Rainbow Warrior than in my wardrobe.

And I am the type of person who dreams of having the 'perfect essentials' nailed down. So I've done a bit of stealth work and so far, this Australian site is one of the best I've come across*: Betty Browne. Prices aren't dissimilar to Country Road or Witchery and yet it's all organic and Australian-made. Nuff said. You're welcome.
